ABU
1 – ABU
Arabic word meaning "the father of." For example, "Abu Mohammed escorted his son (Mohammed) to the boy's first job interview." Abu became a known word among Western and English speaking cultures thanks to Walt Disney, who named the monkey in the movie Aladdin 'Abu.' Not exactly a fatherly character, Abu provides comic relief with his farcical humour and antics.
2 – ABU
In Disney's Aladdin, the title character had a monkey sidekick whose name was Abu. Abu was clownish and had a talent for physical farce. His purpose in the script is to provide comic relief while propelling the story along. Traditionally, however, Abu is an Arab word meaning "father of." For example, "Abu Ishmael is very proud of his growing boy."
3 – ABU
Acronym for Anything But United. Anyone who has flown United Airlines can appreciate how accurate this heart-felt acronym is, and why it came about. In reaction to their cash-strapped status in the early 2000's, United Airlines made horribly inhumane policies such as not allowing the handicapped, the elderly, and families with small children to pre-board, but rather wheel, hobble, and drag their children onboard along with the young, unencumbered and able-bodied pushing them aside to get to their seats first. That, and the relatively (compared to other airlines) expensive coach tickets to buy for this disrespectful treatment earned them the acronym, ABU. Ironically, this was a misguided attempt to avoid bankruptcy through which United Airlines alienated its customers and defeated their own purpose.
